Protest The Hero drop 'The Canary' from new album, 'Palimpsest'

New Protest The Hero was well worth the wait!

When this week started, I didn't expect to hear a new Protest The Hero single but that's just how this week has turned out. The Canadian prog-metal outfit's newest single is named after Amelia Earhart's bright yellow Kinner Airster biplane, The Canary, with the song being inspired by the life of American aviation pioneer; Earhart was actually the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic ocean, disappearing on July 2nd, 1937 over the Pacific while en route to Howland Island from Lae, Papua New Guinea.

'The Canary' sounds like newer Protest The Hero with vibes of their stunning 2005 debut, 'Kezia.' Vocalist Rody Walker allows his mighty falsetto vocals to crack, emphasizing his vocals with more emotion whilst maintaining his insane technique. You couldn't even tell that he'd blown his voice out barely two years ago; his voice sounds like it's in pristine health. Guitarists Luke Hoskin and Tim MacMillar are up to their usual tricks - sweet harmonies and licks, combining awesome prog riffs - and drummer Mike Ieradi holds the rhythmic fort down as well as he ever has in their older material. On top of that, teaming up with another well-known Canadian band for 'The Canary,' Propagandhi's Todd Kowalski performed the punchy bass lines for this Protest tune, and the bass just pops right out of the mix.

Their first record since 2015's EP, Pacific Myth,' 'Palimpsest' - is a piece of writing material that gets reused over and over, and with that artwork, this new LP is shaping up to be a politically-critical commentary about the U.S. and the West - is out June 19th, 2020 via Spinefarm Records. And I think you can tell how excited we are for it!
