More Private Function More Private Function

One of the country’s wildest, most enigmatic, and most intense live bands, Private Function, are giving fans the chance to catch their memorable live show when they hit the road this May.

Touring in support of their fourth album, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, the forthcoming run of dates sees Private Function kicking things off in Canberra on May 31st before traversing the country over the coming weeks. Between regional dates in Beechworth and headline shows in most capital cities, it’s a huge celebration for the group which wraps up with a performance at the Hunter Valley’s Thrashville Festival on June 28th.

"I actually wrote a thing for the press release last night 'cause I don't often get asked to write any sort of copy or anything – I'm more of a visual guy," drummer Aidan McDonald told The Music recently.

"But I said; 'With a mixed bag of tricks from their years of touring, the band will bring both classics and new songs to the stage, along with their iconic brand of humor and stage craft. This is not to be missed.'

"You'll hear the ones that you love hearing, you'll hear all a shitload of brand new ones, but there will definitely be a million new gags and probably some work you've seen over the years come back, or brand new stuff," he adds with a chuckle. "I'm honestly not sure yet, we haven't written it."

Alongside news of the tour, Private Function have also unveiled new single Animal. The opening track to their new album, it’s a blistering piece of work and arguably one of their heaviest cuts in a while.

"I was definitely a bit blown away by it,” McDonald explains. “That's just a riff we've had for a while, but then we're bringing Anthony [Biancofiore’s, guitarist] wah guitar solos and stuff into that, with layers of guitars and shit like that.”

The accompanying video serves as a continuation of the album’s first single, Koala. What began with frontman Chris Penney and bassist Milla Holland as koalas captured by animal control guards ends with Chris being sent to prison to await execution.

As Milla escapes capture and attempts to save Chris, the question has to be asked if the video is supposed to be a romance or a tragedy. It’s up to you to decipher that one.

Private Function's ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ is released May 23rd with pre-orders available now. Tickets to their forthcoming tour are on sale now.
