The Broadway and West End smash hit, Pretty Woman: The Musical, is making its Australian debut this year, opening in Brisbane in October.

The musical, which follows the storyline of the much-loved 1990 film Pretty Woman - starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere - tells the story of Edward, a wealthy entrepreneur, who falls in love with Vivian, a prostitute he hired to accompany him to various social events.

Prepare for a blazing rock score, written by Grammy winners Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, as well as direction and choreography from Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell - known for her work in Kinky Boots and Hairspray.

The musical broke box office records at the Nederlander Theatre when making its Broadway debut in 2018, and has since wowed audiences in Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, and, of course, West End - where it played for an extended season.

Producer Suzanne Jones is eagerly waiting for this debut, saying, “I first saw this on the West End in London and just loved it and knew immediately that I needed to bring it to Australia. I’m so excited to premiere this production in Brisbane.”

Adams shared a similar sentiment with a crowd at QPAC today, saying, “I’m thrilled Pretty Woman is finally in Australia, I went to see it last year and it blew me away!”

Adams is currently in Australia for his So Happy It Hurts tour, though his recent concert at Perth’s RAC Arena had to be postponed and ultimately cancelled, due to a water supply issue. The bad news was announced by promoters Frontier Touring on Facebook at approximately 9pm AEST—not long before Adams was due to perform. The announcement reads:

We regret to advise that tonight’s performance by Bryan Adams is postponed due to an external Water Corporation water supply issue to RAC Arena which could not be resolved.

All existing ticketholders will be notified by email of an update as soon as possible and need not take any action at this point in time.

Fans waiting to get into the show also reported receiving a text message that read: “Due to an external Water Corporation issue, doors continue to remain closed for the time being. All efforts are being made to resolve this issue. We will continue to keep you informed.”

Also posting on Facebook, Water Corporation revealed that wastewater was “overflowing” onto Wellington Street, and acting on the advice of the Department of Health, the show was cancelled.
