The Temper Trap ProfileThe Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.
Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and former triple j Group Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kathy McCabe (News Corp National Music Writer), Brenton Larney (co-host of Breaking Through Podcast), Triana Butler (host on Joy 94.9), Matty Morris (Super Radio Network nights announcer), and Matt O’Gorman (Triple M Homegrown host).
It’s been a big year for The Temper Trap, and even as 2026 tends towards its end, the beloved Melbourne rockers aren’t slowing down.
Back in July, the group released the long-awaited Sungazer, arriving ten years after their Thick As Thieves record, and four years since returning from hiatus.
A critical and commercial success, it became their fourth record to chart within the Australian top ten, and even nabbed them an ARIA Award nomination for Best Rock Album.
But they’re not done yet, with latest single Slide arriving just last week. Written during the sessions for Sungazer, it’s a synth-infused banger with massive choruses that serves as an emotionally charged relationship reflection.
"Slide came together effortlessly at the eleventh hour,” explains Dougy Mandagi. “The last song we wrote for the record about how silence can become its own form of betrayal."
