'The Endless River' will be released this November

More Pink Floyd More Pink Floyd

Iconic UK-bred psych/prog pioneers Pink Floyd have revealed the artwork and release date for their forthcoming 15th studio full-length album, The Endless River.

The album — which boasts a vintage Pink Floyd line-up consisting of founding members Nick Mason and the late Richard Wright alongside iconic Floyd guitarist David Gilmour — will drop in Australia on Friday, November 7, via Sony Music Australia, and had its artwork unveiled around the world as its cover image was projected onto building facades in ten cities including New York, Los Angeles and Sydney.

The album is the first to be released by the band since Wright's death in 2008 (he appears posthumously), and both Gilmour and Mason have said that the album is consequently something of a tribute to their departed member.

"The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions," Gilmour said in a statement. "We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album. Over the last year we've added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st-century Pink Floyd album.

"With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire."

"The Endless River is a tribute to Rick," Mason agreed. "I think this record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound.

"Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.”

The album's art has its seeds in a piece of work by Egyptian digital-art prodigy Ahmed Emad Eldin, whose original work portraying a man rowing on a "river" of clouds was consequently adapted by lauded Brit design agency Stylorouge for Floyd's purposes.

The "four-sided", largely instrumental album is the band's first such release in 20 years. Floyd released a snippet teaser on their website recently, which doesn't give much away at all, but is the most tangible preview we've got until November 7. Have a look below.
