Perth is set to discover the magic of PICKLE LIT in the city’s vibrant art district — The Pickle District.
In West Perth on Friday, May 16, this free art event will transform the historic Pickle Factory precinct into a pulsating world of light and sound. PICKLE LIT aims to celebrate art-driven ideas through fostering deep connections with the local community, priding its creatives by immersing visitors in their work.
Once home to Tandy's Preserves and Pickle Factory, the precinct was known by locals to fill the air with a vinegary aroma. Over the years, the surrounding wetlands turned into a residential zone, and later into a light industrial district. Now championed as The Pickle District, it’s a burgeoning arts hub home to art galleries, design and photography studios, a theatre and event spaces, all nestled between Perth city, Leederville and Northbridge.
With a strong lineup of local artists "infused" with brine, punters are invited to crawl through a lively circuit of dynamic installations, performances and experimental short films across venues including: Holmes à Court Gallery, Cleaver Street, Old Habits, Friday’s Studio, and Backlot Cinema.
Old Habits, an intimate neighbourhood bar in the heart of the city, will be where the party is. Local DJs Yon Jovi, Diger Rockwell, and Tobe1 Kanobee will keep crowds dancing through the evening.
Animations from local artist Tee Ken Ng, which have been commissioned by global names like Coldplay, Netflix and Hermès, will be showcased for audiences to enjoy, alongside Sohan Ariel Hayes, renowned for creating profoundly moving works that push the boundaries of spatial technologies. The global sonic journeys of Anita Emor and audiovisual artist, musician, and producer Roly Skender can also be uncovered, with many more artists to join the lineup.
