Troye SivanAustralia has a new pop star in Perth’s Troye Sivan and the actor-turned-singer could debut in the top ten of the ARIA Singles Chart this week.
Today theMusic.com.au can reveal that midweek figures show that 19-year-old South African born Sivan, who has starred in the Spud film trilogy, is nipping at the heels of the top ten with his debut single Happy Little Pill. The single – a product of the post-Lorde, Lana Del Rey world – was lapped up by fans, who then pushed his EP, TRXYE, to number one in the iTunes charts in 2014 countries – on pre-orders alone.
So while Paloma Faith’s Only Love Can Hurt Like This is currently number one, The Madden Brothers’ We Are Done (currently number two) will be boosted by a tour announcement and will.i.am featuring Cody Wise’s It’s My Birthday is having a strong week, it won’t take much for Sivan to have a late week surge before Friday and push well into the top ten.
Other new debuts in the Singles Chart top 50 will be The Script’s Superheroes, Lily Allen’s As Long As I Got You, Klingande’s Jubel and Lil Jon featuring Tyga’s Bend Ova while there are strong sales for Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass and George Ezra’s Budapest.
Ed Sheeran’s X looks a strong chance to stay number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, despite a surge from the Frozen soundtrack. Currently sitting at two, Aussies Sheppard will stay within the top five with Bombs Away while Sia’s 1000 Forms Of Fear will drop further back into the top ten.

The top debut in the Albums Chart will come from country legend John Williamson’s Honest People, which is tracking towards a top ten debut. Outside of that Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Hypnotic Eye and Anberlin’s Lowborn will reach the top 25.
Splendour In The Grass-related sales bumps are being felt for Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour, Lily Allen’s Sheezus, Asgeir’s In The Silence and First Aid Kit’s Stay Gold.
