Hello BIGSOUND, We're Listening: Our Infamous 'Overheard' Series Is Back

4 September 2019 | 4:45 pm | The Music Team

Get ready.

BIGSOUND is back for another huge year and with it comes our annual Overheard At BIGSOUND stories where The Music team share all the juicy news and gossip we hear from across Fortitude Valley.

From on-stage fires to the acts everyone's talking about, what used to be the 'settling in' day of the BIGSOUND week is fast shaping up to be one of the busiest nights in the Valley. Here's Overheard At BIGSOUND night one.

What we heard...

"Yeah, he was a bit Weekend At Bernie's." - Umm, we hope you called an ambulance?

"Thank you for being the Gun to our Roses." - And thank you, TOWNS.

"Let’s get drunk." - Someone who may already be there while passing their peer in the street.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Random punter leaving gig: "It's just some triple j band." - This is officially a genre now?

You may not have lived until you have seen Fergalicious performed at Blute's Bar karaoke on a Tuesday night.

"Is it Stevan as in Stephen or do we elongate the A - 'Stevaaaaan'." - We've learnt it's the former but it will always be the latter in our hearts.

"Which orifice?" - Bakers Eddy don't know what to do with free swag.

Excuse us but how have we never used the bathrooms at Cloudland before?! Have you seen those elephant doorhandles. We feel fancy AF.

"I need to duck into Universal Store and buy a pair of shorts." - Last year we couldn't stop talking about the rain and this year the heat is sending visiting Melburnians into a spin.

"That was my new single. Stream it on Spotify. Gotta plug, hey." - A very smiley Stevan during his set at Ric's.

"Who's parents are all these?" - A youth at Little Quirks.

"Stop the song! We met a guy at the pub the other week - it was in Melbourne - and he told us if we talk about Mountain Dew on stage he'll pay us $2000." - Private Function, who then lit their guitarist on fire and put it out with that sweet, sweet Dew.

So, Kymie, Milan Ring, Spacey Jane, Electric Fields and Hooligan Hefs all caught a heap of important industry and label attention at their sets last night.

Stevan's cover of Andre 3000's Prototype and Cry Club's version of mclusky's To Hell With Good Intentions rated very highly with us.

The acts that everyone is talking about:

Stevan
Wolfjay (more like Wolfyay, amirite?)
Bakers Eddy (who have also recruited a new member - a punter named Liam who sat on their kick drum to stop it moving.)
P-UniQue
EGOISM
Hooligan Hefs (who's fans show their appreciation by throwing a pair of crutches in the air. Find out more about him here.)
Hallie
Milan Ring
Spacey Jane (who's set was so crowded it was almost impossible to get in)

Mullet Watch is back!

Look, we'll be honest we didn't expect for our favourite segment Mullet Watch to return in 2019 but just like the classic '80s style, it's made a comeback at BIGSOUND once more. Honourable mentions go to Johnny Hunter and TOWNS drummer Daniel Steinert, as well as the very spectacular number spotted in the crowd at the Future Popes showcase.
