Nirvana’s Dave Grohl (drums), Krist Novoselic (bass guitar), and Pat Smear (rhythm guitar) reunited on Thursday (30 January) for the first time since 2018.
The remaining Nirvana band members joined forces for the star-studded LA FireAid benefit concert, which featured a range of rocking special guest vocalists.
While it could have been easy for the band to rip into Smells Like Teen Spirit, walk off stage and make everyone happy, Nirvana performed deep cuts from across their catalogue.
The performance started with St. Vincent singing and playing guitar for Breed (albeit with audio issues at the start of her performance), Kim Gordon bringing the gravel to School, Joan Jett carrying her legendary energy on Territorial Pissings, and Violet Grohl bringing the surprise reunion home with a rousing performance of All Apologies.
You can watch the performance below.
Fox 13 Seattle reports that Nirvana’s appearance at FireAid wasn’t announced ahead of time. The band last reunited in 2018 at Foo Fighters’ annual Cal Jam music festival, with Joan Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley providing vocals and The Distillers’ Brody Dalle on bass guitar.
