Australian music icon Nick Cave’s work is once again being brought to television, but this time, it isn’t Red Right Hand acting as the theme music for Peaky Blinders.

Cave’s 2009 novel, The Death Of Bunny Munro, is coming to the small screen, with House Of The Dragon, Doctor Who, and The Crown actor Matt Smith on board to executive produce and play the titular role, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Smith’s role, television writer Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) is on board to write the six-part series, Isabella Eklöf (IndustryHoliday) will direct, and Sky Studios will produce the series in partnership with Clerkenwell Films (The End of the F***ing WorldMisfits). Filming for the series is expected to start in early-to-mid 2024.

The character of Bunny Munro is a door-to-door salesman dealing with sex addiction, who, in the book, embarks on a wild road trip with his nine-year-old son following his wife’s death.

Cave told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement, “Finally, someone with the courage to take on this unholy tale. I am thrilled that Sky and Clerkenwell Films are bringing Bunny to life in all his flawed glory, and I can think of nobody better than Matt Smith to play him.”

Smith described the book as “a brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos” and added, “At its heart, a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change.”

Earlier this month, Cave revealed that he was preparing to mix the new Bad Seeds album. Addressing fans via Facebook, he wrote, “Dear All,

“I am packing ready to leave Los Angeles today, then heading to Buffalo to mix the new Bad Seeds album.”

The announcement arrived a few months after Cave said he was “finishing” the new Bad Seeds album in a Red Hand Files Q&A.

In January, Cave revealed that his plan for 2023 was “to make a new record with the Bad Seeds”.

He added, “This is both good news and bad news. Good news, because who doesn’t want a new Bad Seeds record? Bad news because I’ve got to write the bloody thing.”

The new Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds record will follow 2019's heartbreaker, Ghosteen.
