Miss KaninnaMiss Kaninna is gearing up to release a new single, MOB TIES, next Friday (19 February), and she’s revealed how a handful of lucky punters can hear it early.
Sharing a snippet of the forthcoming single on social media, which sounds melodic and packed with the proud Yorta Yorta woman’s signature profound, energetic style of songwriting, Miss Kaninna revealed that she’s given 20 copies of MOB TIES on CD to a Melbourne record store.
“We don’t own anything anymore…. So I’ve burned 20 copies of my new single MOB TIES to CD and taken them to @northside_records TODAY from 11am,” she wrote on Instagram.
Miss Kaninna added that fans can simply say “I got MOB TIES” at the counter of Northside Records, located in the inner-city suburb of Fitzroy, to be one of twenty people to listen to her new single before its official release.
She continued, “THERE ARE ONLY 20… so don’t fumble and get your ass to @northside_records RIGHT NOW !!!”
Check out the teaser below, and get down to Fitzroy ASAP.
MOB TIES is the follow-up to Miss Kaninna’s recently released single, BACKSTREETS, which arrived in December. A departure from her previous singles, such as Blak Britney and Pinnacle Bitch, BACKSTREETS finds Miss Kaninna slowing down and embracing pop and R&B, singing and showcasing her vulnerability juxtaposed with her strength.
BACKSTREETS also marks Miss Kaninna’s first music video. Directed by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore (Genesis Owusu, Courtney Barnett, Emily Wurramara), the resulting clip pays tribute to classic crime and drama films.

“I always loved the movies and theatre, so I wanted my first music video to be dramatic and captivating like a mini movie,” Miss Kaninna explained. “Working with Claudia to develop the idea really made me wig out cause I kept having to tell myself, ‘Wtf I’m making a real music video!’”
She continued, “I wanted to tell a story of a girl who was wronged, and she got the revenge she deserved. I was heavy inspired by ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Sucker Punch’, I love how gangster those women are and I’ve always wanted to be in an action film.
“I really wanted to film out on Yorta Yorta country (Shepparton) because it’s where my family have lived for thousands of years and it’s somewhere special for me. Being my first music video location was important, as was having my family present.”
Last month, Miss Kaninna landed a billboard in the heart of New York City.
The electronic billboard was presented by Amazon Music and its Artists To Watch program. Miss Kaninna starred alongside emerging artists in R&B, country, dance, Latin, rock, alternative, K-pop, J-Pop, classical, and more. Other artists on the Artists To Watch list are Braxton Keith, Fcukers, Kettama, President, and fellow Australians, Folk Bitch Trio.
Reacting to seeing her name and face on a billboard on the other side of the globe, Miss Kaninna said, “IM ON A FUCKING BILLBOARD…. IN TIMES FUCKING SQUARE….NEW YORK !!!!! Check out the ‘Artist to Watch’ Playlist in my bio.”
