Boyeur back up ambitious debut with east-coast jaunt in support
Labour and love hang thick in the air that surrounds Melbourne indie-pop twosome Boyeur. With new single Cupid ready to hit shelves on May 16, and their debut EP,Gold Street, to follow a fortnight later, Hugh Middleton and Tim Ischia have announced that they will be supporting the releases with a run of east-coast shows throughout June.
Boyeur's soundscape traverses six instruments between the pair, and the resulting compositions inform the lush, detailed aesthetic that has defined their sound to date. Cupid also features the talents of some of Australia's premium hip-hop identities such as One Above and DJ Reflux, and their live shows will feature a string quartet for added authenticity.
Of the EP's musical complexity, Middleton said: “We hope that the more detailed listener will be rewarded with the discovery of many musical gems that are cosily embedded in the sound.”
Gold Street's delights don't end at instrumentation, though, with Cupid's lyrics especially pointing to the deeply rooted intellectualism that underscores the work's emotional overtones.
“Overthinking is toxic to any human relationship, and sometimes it prevents a relationship from even starting. All the emotions become magnified and you end up being too nervous to do anything,” guitarist and lead vocalist Ischia said.

The video was filmed, directed and produced by award-winning Melburnian filmmaker and cinematographer Matthew Chuang, and - perhaps most impressively – filmed in one continuous take.
“The narrative is about a crush, the song depicts the entire emotional arc of a relationship occurring inside someone's head, without the other person ever being aware of it,” Ischia said.
Boyeur hit Sydney on Wednesday, June 4 (The Vanguard) and Friday, June 6 (The Newsagency), Wollongong on Saturday, June 7 (Rad), Canberra on Sunday, June 8 (Smith's Alternative Bookshop), and Melbourne on Thursday, June 26 (The Workers Club).
