Melbourne District Music Awards Announce 2024 Nominees

The newly-announced Melbourne District Music Awards have announced the nominees for their debut edition, with audience voting now open.

With the awards ceremony scheduled to take place at The Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood on Saturday, November 16th, the jovially-dubbed MDMAs have revealed the artists who are in contention for its three major awards.

Leading the awards is the Song Of The Year honour, which sees Select All’s Don’t Cry Over Spilt Milk, Terra Rouge’s Couch Song, and Dirty Gwen’s Marshall Fields all going head to head.

Meanwhile, Album/EP Of The Year will be fought over by Tudor Club's Crossfire, My Giddy Aunt's 8 Billion Characters In The Worst Movie Ever, and the self-titled effort by Achey Peace.

Lastly, Music Video Of The Year will given to either Cool Dad's Major Sea, Left At The Avenue's Wailing, or Cass Aware's On Chapel.

Two other awards will also be handed out on the night, including the Best Band award, which will be voted by bands, and the Participation Award, which will be decided by audiences at the event. Each award will also be paired with a $250 cash prize and a trophy.

First announced last month, the MDMAs are described as a “ceremony for local indie / rock musicians in Melbourne”, with fun and frivolity at the forefront of proceedings, unlike many other ceremonies.

“Our mission is to encourage, award and celebrate real local independent artists as well as to empower and strengthen the community that is so crucial to the Melbourne music scene,” organisers said of the event.

Its debut event on November 16th will also boast a red carpet, live performances from Tile and Paraquay, and will also feature special guest industry hosts to help facilitate the night.

Tickets to the ceremony are on sale now, with audience voting now open for Song, Album/EP, and Music Video Of The Year awards.
