It’s been a great week of celebrating Australian music as triple j unveiled the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs last Saturday (26 July), and this week, Double J revealed which songs just missed the cut on the Hottest 200.

This countdown drew in a total of 2,655,826 votes, making it the most votes counted since the 2020 poll attracted almost 2.8 million. The record still belongs to the 2019 Hottest 100, however, which counted 3.21 million votes in total.

As the national youth broadcaster noted ahead of the countdown last weekend, only 30 votes separated the songs coming in at #100 and #101. Last Saturday, the excitement kicked off with The Screaming JetsBetter, and coming in at #101 on the Hottest 200 was Kylie Minogue’s iconic 2000s hit, Spinning Around.

The Hottest 200 of Australian Songs is packed with surprises (TISM followed by Helen Reddy? Chains into This Heart Attack?) and the long-awaited presence of artists who didn’t make last weekend’s countdown. Sia missed out on the Hottest 100, but she appeared twice on the Hottest 200 with Breathe Me at #172 and Chandelier right on #102.

Considering the strength of Australia’s heavy music scene, listeners last week were disappointed that some of the country’s most successful bands didn’t make the cut. However, it was close, with the Parkway Drive anthem, Carrion, at #106, and a bit further up in the list, The Amity Affliction’s Pittsburgh at #155.

The Hottest 200 also marked solid showings for Ben Lee, Sunnyboys, Savage Garden—their hit single I Want You made it to the Hottest 100, but fans also voted for To The Moon & Back (#114), and Truly Madly Deeply (#107)—Pete Murray, Spiderbait, Divinyls, Grinspoon, Hoodoo Gurus, Amy Shark, Something For Kate, The Middle East, and more.
