South African-born, Melbourne-based composer and flutist Wouter Kellerman has won a Grammy at today's awards.

Kellerman's collaborative effort with Indian composer and producer Ricky Kej, Winds Of Samsara took out the Best New Age Album Of The Year award. The news was revealed as part of the earlier announced winners prior to the main ceremony, which kicks off in a couple of hours in Los Angeles.

Winds Of Samsara debuted at one on the Billboard New Age chart when it was released last year and went on to spend 12 weeks in the top ten. Kellerman has won a number of awards throughout his esteemed career including the South African Grammy equivalent for his 2011 LP Two Voices on the category of Best Instrumental Album.

Kellerman was one of a handful of local nominees, alongside rapper Iggy Azalea, singer-songwriter Sia and country star Keith Urban. Hip hop producer M-Phazes is also nominated through his work on Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP2.
