Melbourne’s own “bogan funk” band Playlunch will play five big shows across Australia this September for their largest national tour to date.

Touring in support of their highly anticipated new album, Sex Ed—due for release on Friday, 22 August, via ABC Music—the seven-piece will host “joyful, cheeky, and undeniably funky” live shows.

The tour begins at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Friday, 5 September. It continues at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, 6 September, Brisbane’s The Triffid on Friday, 12 September, Sydney’s Manning Bar on Saturday, 13 September, and concludes with a hometown show at Melbourne’s 170 Russel on Friday, 19 September.

Fans can access the Early Lunch/Destroy All Lines pre-sale on Wednesday, 2 July, at 10 am local time – register for access here – ahead of the general sale on Friday, 4 July, at 10 am local time. Head to the Destroy All Lines website for more ticketing information.

Brisbane duo JUNO are the special guests on all shows. Playlunch said of having them on the tour, “We’re so excited to be having the insanely talented JUNO along for the whole tour with us.

“We first met them at BIGSOUND in Brisbane last year and couldn’t have been more impressed with their show. Everyone is in for an absolute treat, with a night of nonstop dancing and singing across the whole line-up!”

They added, “We’re so pumped to celebrate this new album we’ve worked crazy hard on for the past year. It’s absolutely bananas to us how much love, support and dedication our fans continue to give us, and this tour is a celebration of our commitment back to you guys. We’re going to bring it.

“These shows will not only be in these crazy, surreal venues, but will also be the biggest Playlunch show you’ll have ever seen - packed full of surprises and with the best production value we can possibly cram into the shows. We’ll be playing a whole heap of these new tracks live for the very first time (can’t wait to show you!), as well as all the favs from our debut album.”

The tour announcement arrives after Playlunch’s recent release of the viral music video for their track, Keith. Starring AFL Hall of Famer Barry Hall as the titular character, the Melbourne band put a fresh spin on the male version of a “Karen”—their story about a “psycho tradie neighbour,” based on a true story.
