StrangersMelbourne rock outfit Strangers have been working hard since their 2012 debut, Persona Non Grata — on their next album, on their live show, on their craft — and that dedication has paid off, grabbing the attention of big ol' major label Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
The four-piece are marking the occasion of joining the big leagues with new single Mirrorland, the first taste from their forthcoming follow-up LP, which is due for release next year. It's a particularly meaty little number, built on rolling drums, snarling, angular guitar, and alternately understated and powerful vocal work. It's all propelled by an underlying sense of urgency, a feeling no doubt steeped in its thematic origins.
"Mirrorland is in a sense a purge of anxious and fear-driven thought," frontman Ben Britton said of the track in a statement. "This is rock-bottom. This is not being able to function. This is not being able to get out of bed. And this is not being able to see anything positive in life. It was a scary place to be."
Despite it being the initial sample of the incoming album, the track actually came along fairly late in the piece, according to guitarist Mark Barnes.
"Mirrorland was the last song we wrote for the album," he said. "The majority of the riffs came up during pre-production for other songs and I think because of that it's a nice snapshot of the overall theme."
