Madonna Shares Teaser For Charli XCX Collaboration

Madonna and Charli XCX have reworked the former’s song, 'Danceteria,' and the new rendition arrives soon.

After Sabrina Carpenter featured on Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, and the Like a Prayer icon shared her first-ever collaboration with Kylie Minogue, it seems that Madonna isn’t done collaborating with fellow pop stars.

Earlier this month, Madonna went on TikTok and shared a clip of her listening to music in the back seat of a taxi, with the caption “Thinking about Charli.”

Today, she shared a teaser: Madonna and Charli XCX have reworked the former’s song, Danceteria, with a version called Danceteria Afterhours. The track arrives next Thursday (24 September).

In the video shared on social media, Madonna and Charli dance, say each other’s names, sing “I’ve got something I want to talk about,” followed by “Everyone here is a work of art/ Everybody get up and dance,” while Madonna smokes a cigarette.

Be warned, though: the 23-second clip has plenty of flashing colours and images. Check out the teaser below.

Danceteria is the third single from Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II – the sequel to her 2006 record, Confessions on a Dance Floor. The track is a tribute to the 1980s New York City downtown scene, including the Danceteria nightclub and the memories she made there.

Charli XCX recently released her new album, Music, Fashion, Film, an introspective record with dance beats and jagged guitars. Plus, the album art is already iconic, featuring The Velvet Underground’s John Cale (Music), Marc Jacobs (Fashion), and Martin Scorsese (Film) gathered around a kitchen table.

In May, Charli unveiled the single ROCK MUSIC, capturing the vibe and sounds of the 2000s indie sleaze era, particularly in the music video.

The Brat star teased her surprise musical turn in an interview with British Vogue, where she cited a lyric from ROCK MUSIC: “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music.”

She added, “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad. What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”

Following that interview, Madonna shared a statement of her own that assured fans the dancefloor won’t be dying while she makes music.
