Gen Z Has Even Ruined LimeWire... And Travis Barker

Can't wait to download fLuMe_NEVEr-bE-LiKE-YoU.mp3 as an NFT

LimeWire has finally and officially relaunched, for better or for worse. Don't stress though, this time it'll be impossible to absolutely destroy your computer attempting to download the latest Usher record, with the platform re-launching as a *sigh* NFT marketplace.

The LimeWire relaunch was initially announced in March, when its new owners and brothers Paul and Julian Zehetmayr purchased its rights with the strategy of turning it to a platform to trade music-related non-fungible collections.

“We see a huge demand in the entertainment space for platforms that recognise and appreciate artists for their talent and put them in the driver’s seat,” the brothers said in a press statement.

“LimeWire presents a new commercial opportunity for artists of all sizes and genres to engage with their fans, gain more exposure in a unique way and retain more of their earnings.”

The site has launched with Travis Barker amongst one of the first big names to share a collection of collectables on the site. Initial collections also included exclusive original songs, backstage passes and video clips.

They've also announced that Brandy, Nicky Jam, Aitch and Dillon Francis will be some of the artists who will release collections alongside Barker.

Barker added to the statement saying, "I have always been interested in Web3 and NFTs so I am pretty stoked to release my first NFT collection and to do it on LimeWire.

"I hope that my NFT collection will inspire aspiring artists and fans who want to learn about my creative journey and how I make music. LimeWire has created a platform that makes exciting content like this accessible to all of my fans — even ones who are unfamiliar with Web3.”

While yes, torrenting music was inherently immoral and it's great that artists will now get paid for their work on the platform, transforming the iconic, virus ridden platform into an NFT market place leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
