L7Jennifer Finch, the long-standing bassist of the American rock band L7, has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of brain cancer.
The band shared the news on social media overnight (13 July), six weeks after telling fans that Finch would be unable to tour with them this month due to “a recent health concern requiring extended treatment.”
After revealing Finch’s diagnosis, the band added that “Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support.”
To help their bandmate, Finch’s friends, family and bandmates have launched a GoFundMe to fund the urgent expenses required for her treatment so she can “remain safely at home with the care, dignity and support she needs.”
The GoFundMe page explains:
When she first heard the diagnosis, there was reason to believe that treatment, including a full course of radiation, would get her back to some version of normal living. Unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks.
The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations so she’s handling this the only way she knows how: one day at a time.
L7 noted that their upcoming final tour, The Last Hurrah Tour, taking place across the US in October and November, was planned along with Finch when all members of the band were in “good health and spirits.”

While Finch is unable to join her bandmates on their upcoming run, “Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned,” the band wrote. “We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority.”
L7 have urged their followers to donate to the GoFundMe if they can and share the campaign widely. They’re raising money for Finch to have professional in-home and essential medical care, cover home-care expenses, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and legal fees, and help cover the costs of completing an upcoming creative project. “Jennifer is part of our family,” the band concluded. “We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years.”
Jennifer Finch joined L7 in 1986, a year after their formation, and remained with the band until 1996. She re-joined L7 upon their reformation in 2014 – following their hiatus from 2001 – and has stayed with the band ever since.
L7 were last in Australia for the 2024 edition of Good Things Festival, following tour dates in December 2023 when the band commemorated the 30th anniversary of their seminal album, Bricks Are Heavy.
