Classic movie soundtracks, starlets included in roster
Kobalt Music Publishing have today announced they have signed an exclusive agreement with the Disney Music Group to become the official sub-publisher of their catalogue in Australia and New Zealand.
The company will provide DMG with synching, copyright and creative services for the recordings managed by Disney's publishing companies. Songs include The Lion Kings' Circle Of Life and Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Aladdin's A Whole New World, The Jungle Book's The Bare Necessities and Toy Story's You've Got A Friend In Me, amongst many others.
As well as pop-culture-engrained tracks, Disney has a large roster of starlets which have been nurtured through their own channels, including Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and songwriters including Matt Squire.
Kobalt Publishing's Australian Managing Director Simon Moor said today, “Disney's music is a touchstone in everyone's lives… [I] believe that we will be able to provide both first class administration whilst creating new and exciting opportunities for their songs, writers and artists.”

“Not only are the Disney music catalogues historic with some of the most memorable and classic songs ever written, the energy and vibe of the people working for Disney is very exciting,” added Kobalt's founder and CEO Willard Ahdritz. “The current talent associated with their numerous music companies is also continually on the cusp of generating popular hits that impact globally.”
Ken Bunt, Disney Music Group's Executive Vice President, offered, “We have long been fans of [Kobalt's] proactive and transparent approach to the music publishing business. Willard [Ahdritz, founder] and his team clearly see the future of the business and we are looking forward to the road ahead.”
DMG signed an Australian and New Zealand distribution license deal with Universal in March 2009.
The company's most recent releases from late last year include the soundtracks to Frankenweenie, Wreck-It Ralph and a digital single for Oscar-winning short film Paperman.
