As King Parrot ready themselves to release their long-awaited new album, the drip feed of fresh material continues, with the band now unveiling their latest track, Punish The Runt.
Early in February, King Parrot released their first piece of new music in five years, Fuck You And the Horse You Rode In On. Followed up just weeks later by Target Pig Elite, the new tracks are set to appear on the band’s forthcoming record, A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot.
Scheduled for release on June 6th, the new album was recorded with engineer Luke Walton at Melbourne’s Dangertone Studios. The full-length marks the band’s first album since 2017’s Ugly Produce and first new music since their 2020 EP, Holed Up In The Lair.
On latest cut Punish The Runt, the band are providing a masterclass in exactly what it is that have made King Parrot such a beloved figure on the local heavy music scene. Alongside thick riffs and the classic grindcore element blending with punk rock ethos, it’s everything you could want from King Parrot and more.
“This new one is a personal favourite of mine from the upcoming record,” explained vocalist Matt Young. “We enjoyed putting this one together and it’s got every aspect of what the band does in it, grind, thrash, punk and even rock’n’roll elements.
“It was one of the first tracks we put together in the writing sessions, we hope you all dig listening as much as we did writing.”
