"I have been going to Woodford for 20 of its 30 years — either as a performer or a punter..."

More Katie Noonan More Katie Noonan

Acclaimed Brisbane singer/songwriter Katie Noonan has penned a song in celebration of Woodford Folk Festival's upcoming 30th anniversary and will perform it at the festival's Welcome Ceremony on 27 December.

The song, fittingly titled United In Sound, will be performed with a 40 person orchestra under the direction of composer Andrew Vievers.

The tribute to the long-running folk festival references Noonan's long history with the event, and as Noonan shares, "Woodford is my special place and I wanted to try and evoke the spirit of this iconic event - a true community celebration where everyone plays a vital part.

"I have been going to Woodford for 20 of its 30 years — either as a performer or a punter — and was honoured to be asked to help commemorate this milestone event. I can't wait to hear all our voices raised in song together in the amphitheatre — united in sound!"

Festival director Bill Hauritz adds, "Katie is one of those musicians who I have consistently admired throughout her musical career. We’ve had her performing in the programme a number of times over many years and she has been very obliging to accept our request to create a song. It encapsulates much of the Festival’s spirit — our expectations are exceeded."

If you aren't heading down to Woodford, Noonan will be premiering the song in a free performance with the Sunshine Coast Orchestra in Caloundra on Friday, 18 December. The performance will tie in with the Flower Fields visual installation project — 10,000 flowers handcrafted by Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay communities.

The Music is proudly presenting Woodford Folk Festival, which runs from 27 December to 1 January.
