The recently returned Aussie rockers have sold more than 6.5 million albums to date
Dusted-off local rockers Jet have landed a worldwide music publishing deal with powerhouse company BMG, joining fellow Aussies Peking Duk, Meg Mac, SAFIA, San Cisco, Drapht, AC/DC and more under the multinational's sizeable purview.
Although still best-known for their 2003 debut single Are You Gonna Be My Girl?, Jet's catalogue — which includes three albums and a pair of EPs — actually includes several songs that charted well, including two that actually locally outperformed their overshadowing opus (which peaked locally at #20) in 2004's Look What You've Done (#12) and 2006's Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is (#14). To be totally fair, though, Are You Gonna Be My Girl? did win the 2003 triple j Hottest 100, so the ARIA charts ain't everything.
They also achieved a #1 in the United States — something they never managed in Australia — with Cold Hard Bitch, while other well-performing tracks in their home country also include Rollover DJ (#3 in the 2003 Hottest 100), Rip It Up, Shine On, The Wild One (with Iggy Pop), She's A Genius and Seventeen.
All said and done, Jet have shifted more than 6.5 million albums in their time, with debut effort Get Born (2003) having blasted past the 9x Platinum mark in Australia, while 2006 sophomore effort went Platinum in Oz and 2009's Shaka Rock hit Gold. The band also picked up a slew of awards in their day, taking out six wins from seven nominations at the 2004 ARIA Awards, as well as picking up three nominations at the 2004 MTV Music Awards.

"Jet have created some of the most iconic Australian songs of all time and it is a true honor for BMG to both protect and build this undeniable legacy," BMG Australia managing director and long-time Jet supporter Heath Johns said of the deal in a statement. "On a personal level, it is a huge thrill to have our new Australian company bring such an internationally relevant catalog to the incredible global BMG team."
Echoed Jet: "We’re really happy to have struck a worldwide deal with BMG. Heath Johns backed us before we released our first album so it also feels great to be working with him again."
Jet have been back in the spotlight of late after a handful of outings as openers on Bruce Springsteen's current tour of Australia, as well as playing a sold-out warm-up show at Melbourne's Gasometer in the days before their proper revival.
The band have two shows at Taronga Zoo in Sydney this week, including a sold-out performance tonight, 16 February, and another gig this Sunday, 19 February.
