The mix by James Blake for BBC Radio 1 is eclectic, eccentric, and featured some of the best and most obscure tracks this side of the motherland.
JAMES BLAKE knows exactly how to tug on the heart strings while maintaining an air of cool. He does so in his new mix on his monthly residency spot on BBC Radio 1 starting with 'Hope She'll Be Happier' by none other than the one of the original crooners Bill Withers.
The opening track features soft acoustic guitar and the creamy vocal chords of Withers, creating a soft tone for the listener. Blake then turns up the heat a touch and begins to incorporate island style sampling and Deep House beats, only interrupted by his British accent.
Bootsy Collins brings back those delicious guitar and bass licks that the 70s were notorious for with 'I'd Rather Be With You'. 'Born Under Punches' by Talking Heads bursts into the mix and truly shows how Blake is turning this into quite a unique experience for the listener.
A tiny bit of Drum & Bass creeps in only to be interrupted by Prince's rendition of 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore' that was heavy on the piano and possessed possibly the highest octave that a human can reach.
