Courtney Love has denied and teased rumours of a potential Hole reunion over the years, but she’s just shared the strongest indicator yet about a reformation with bassist Melissa Auf der Maur.

Taking to Instagram, Love sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a mysterious post. The video features Auf der Maur in a flowing gown, with an elaborate gold ring in the spotlight. She dances in slow motion as the Hole hit, Malibu, plays in the background.

Love captioned the post, “So do we tell the kids about the tour?”

Responding to the question fans have dreamed of for decades, Auf der Maur wrote, “it starts with eternal love…”. Could the band actually be reuniting? Check out the post below.

The classic line-up of Hole has been on hiatus since 2002, following a co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson. Love tried to bring the band back together between 2009 and 2012 – albeit with different band members – but the reunion didn’t last long.

Love last teased a Hole reunion in 2024. At the time, she appeared on stage with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong as he performed with his tribute band, The Coverups, in London.

During the show, she informed punters that she’d be back with Hole “later.”

Addressing the audience, Love said: “My name is Courtney Love – you may not remember me. I’ve been living in a cave in Birmingham for about nine years. We’ll give this a fucking try, right?”

The Hole teaser came towards the end of her time on stage (about seven minutes), when she thanked the audience and vowed, “Later… I’ll be back in Hole.”

Armstrong quipped, “I told you it was going to be a special night”, before showing his admiration for Love, stating, “Thank you, Courtney. I hope we see more of you singing. Please, we need you.”

That moment came after Love shot down speculation around a Hole reunion in 2021, when she told Vogue that fans should stop getting their hopes up.

“A proper Hole reunion will absolutely not [be happening],” she commented in an interview. “You guys have gotta get over it. Our old manager, Peter Mensch, calls once a year to ask about a reunion. I’m so honoured to be in that company, but it’s just not gonna happen.”

In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, however, Love was of a different mindset: she hinted that a potential reformation was on the cards to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Live Through This.

“We are definitely talking about it,” she shared. “There’s nothing wrong with honouring your past; I’ve just kind of discovered that. If you don’t, people will rewrite history, and you will become an inconvenient woman.”
