Ormond Hall set for re-launch later this month

Melbourne's heritage listed Ormond Hall venue is set to return to regular live music this month with the owners having recently installed a new PA in the space.

Renowned for being a hub for bands in the '80s, the St Kilda road venue has since facilitated a number of uses – including the infamous Belgian Beer Café and more recently a function space for weddings and events. Now current owners Village Melbourne are set to re-introduce the space to regular live music from Sunday 23 February, when the venue will officially re-launch.

Today Village's Suzy Dingle, who is booking the live entertainment moving forward, told theMusic.com.au that the launch event will be headlined by Grammy-nominated Hiatus Kaiyote, with other live artists, DJs and a VJ to be confirmed.

She said that she hoped to have the venue, which has a capacity of 650 standing and 790 with the addition of a seated balcony, completely up and running by March or April, with a minimum of two shows a week. They are hoping to work with established agents and promoters to eventually begin attracting international artists and festival sideshows.

The venue's new PA includes eight Nexo S1210/1230 line array speakers and Quest subs, all of which will be showcased at the launch event. The show will cater both the industry representatives and the public.
