Slipknot's Jim Root Says 'Don't Believe Everything You Read' Following Reports Of Sid Wilson's Firing

Slipknot’s Jim Root has responded following rumours that Sid Wilson had been fired from the band.

Over the weekend (1 August, Australian time), TMZ reported that Wilson, Slipknot’s long-running DJ and keyboardist, had been “permanently kicked out” of the band. However, the band hasn’t responded to the report or shared their own statement regarding rumours spreading across the internet.

While the main Slipknot account has shared no statement on social media, guitarist Jim Root took to his Instagram Stories and encouraged fans to wait for more information to arrive.

“Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile,” Root wrote, per NME. While he didn’t mention Wilson by name, the post was soundtracked by the Slipknot song, Til We Die.

He added, “Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”

Earlier this year, Slipknot released their long-shelved 2008 album, Look Outside Your Window, as part of this year’s Record Store Day celebrations.

Released under the Look Outside Your Window moniker, rather than Slipknot, the LP features contributions from band members Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and Sid Wilson.

In 2024, Slipknot welcomed their latest member: new drummer Eloy Casagrande, who previously played with Brazilian metal icons Sepultura.

The news arrived after Slipknot dismissed drummer Jay Weinberg, who was “heartbroken and blindsided” by the band’s decision. In 2023, the group parted ways with longtime keyboard player and sampler Craig Jones, following Chris Fehn’s departure in 2019.

The band’s most recent album, The End, So Far, was released in 2022. Since then, Slipknot have celebrated the 25th anniversary of their debut album, while last year, Shawn “Clown” Crahan teased that the band were working on new music.

“We got a new album,” he told Knotfest’s Dan Franklin in an interview. “We’re gonna start at some point. I just want to roll into that with an energy like it’s all starting again. That’s how I want to approach it.”
