Totally legally, at that
Legendary Aussie musician David Bridie has made available for free his cover of Lou Reed's Perfect Day, lyrically re-imagined for modern Australia and created for a performance at Melbourne's recent Reclink Community Cup.
With the announcement of Sydney's Cup launch activities scheduled for July 13 only a few days ago, the timing couldn't be better for fans to grab their digital copy of Bridie's politically charged, Australianised Reed cover.
The song's gestation came about when Bridie, who rose to prominence with Not Drowning, Waving, and achieved further fame with My Friend The Chocolate Cake, was asked to provide a “national anthem” for Melbourne's Cup back in June, and Reed's tune seemed a natural starting point given the year's event theme: “Such a perfect day”.
You can get your free copy of Perfect Place Anthem right here, simply by clicking “Buy Now” and entering “$0” as your price.

The annual Reclink Community Cup is a yearly Aussie-rules clash between Melburnian community radio/media personalities (The Megahertz) and musicians (The Rockdogs) to raise money for Reclink, a non-profit organisation focused on bringing sport and arts activities to people experiencing disadvantage.
This year's Sydney leg will be the third such instalment, once more pitting the media folk of the Sydney Sailors against the musical talents of the Western Walers for a friendly melee in the name of charity.
David Bridie kicks off a Canadian tour tomorrow; he'll be back Down Under in August, in time for a Supper Show at The Yarra Hotel on Thursday, August 21.
