A selection of faves from the indie label's 2014 catalogue, yours to own on December 19
Celebrated local indie label Future Classic is celebrating the year that was with the impending release of Teen Idols, a 12-song retrospective of the company's favourite tracks from the past 12 months plus four exclusive new cuts, with the album's title track coming courtesy of veteran FC artist Touch Sensitive.
The compilation album comes after an incendiary year for the Sydney-bred label, which has seen them knock off achievement after achievement including the signing of George Maple, welcoming Thrupence to the fold, inking a deal with Basenji, and their collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art to host a summer music program. This, in addition to steering releases from the likes of Flight Facilities, Seekae, and ARIA Award winner Chet Faker.
Teen Idols features the main selection of tracks in addition to exclusive cuts courtey of labelmates Hayden James, Touch Sensitive and 123Mrk, as well as enigmatic new signing KOA. Of the title track, Touch Sensitive — aka Michael Di Francesco — said: "My cousin Michael Bartucciotto introduced me to lots of deep doo-wop, and I'm familiar with most of the Teen Idol stuff because my dad listens to it, so to me this track is about a little bit of the past in a current context.
"People have short attention spans these days and some pop hooks are only a couple of words, if that, so it's a bit of a nod to that world, you could say. Not everyone can sing four-part harmonies, including me, but anyone can do "Doo" or "Bap" and with technology the way it is now, anyone can be a star."
