While Adelaide's Hilltop Hoods climb into the Singles top five
Soon-to-be-touring stadium rock powerhouse Foo Fighters have landed at number one in this week's ARIA Albums Chart.
The band's eighth studio album Sonic Highways was released this past Monday, instead of the usual Australian release day of Friday, to line up with the rest of the world, but that clearly didn't hinder its sales, dethroning Taylor Swift and 1989 from the top spot, as predicted. It's their sixth number one album here.
Legendary rock band Pink Floyd debuted at three with their new release The Endless River, while young Australian singer and recent The X-Factor winner Marlisa scored the next highest debut at six with her self-titled collection. Local country-music darlings Melinda Schneider & Beccy Cole's collaborative effort Great Women Of Country debuted at nine, followed at ten by California metal oufit Machine Head and Bloodstone & Diamonds.
Current Aus tourist Katy Perry saw a couple of her albums enjoy a move back up the charts, with her latest LP Prism jumping over 20 places to land at 11. Her 2012 compilation Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection pushed up into 38th spot. English rock favourites Coldplay also saw their 2014 album Ghost Stories move back into the 50, sitting at 21 this week.

A couple of other Aussies made debuts on the albums front too this week. Dance outfit Knife Party nabbed 20th place thanks to Abandon Ship, while progressive Melburnian metallers Ne Obliviscaris entered at 42 with Citadel. The Voice alum Matthew Garwood also entered the 50 — his new LP The Tattooed Tenor landed at 47.
Other international album debuts this week came from: Spandau Ballet — "The Story" The Very Best Of (22), Royksopp — The Inevitable End (23), Damien Rice — My Favourite Faded Fantasy (25), Bob Dylan — The Basement Tapes Raw: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11, Echosmith — Talking Dreams (45) and Azealia Banks — Broke With Expensive Taste (49).
Over to the ARIA Singles Chart and as predicted, veteran Aus hip hop crew Hilltop Hoods pushed into the top five with their latest anthem Cosby Sweater. The song is sitting exactly at five this week — the highest they have ever placed a single, beating their previous best of six with I Love It in 2012. It's only a few spots behind Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud at one and Swift at two and three with Blank Space and Shake It Off respectively.
There was only one notably high local debut this week and it came from rapper Iggy Azalea. Her track Beg For It feat. Mo entered in at 29. Two Aussies to miss debuting in the 50 this week were Sia and Vance Joy — their new singles You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile and First Time debuted respectively at 71 and 95.
Overseas acts to debut with new singles this week were German producer Parra For Cuva and Wicked Games feat. Anna Naklab (26), pop singer Selena Gomez and The Heart Wants What It Wants (33) and urban music recording artist Jeremih and Don't Tell 'Em feat. YG (40).
