Flickerfest Reveals First Highlights For 2020 Program

Australia’s leading short film festival, Flickerfest has revealed some highlights from its 2020 program, set to take place at Bondi Pavilion next month.

Organisers received a record 3,500 entries from more than 100 countries for next year’s event, narrowing it down to around 200, which will be screened across 16 competitive programmes and four showcase programmes.

Leading the international program and making its Australian debut is White Echo from Chloe Sevigny (The Dead Don’t Die, Kids, Bloodline). The thriller is the third short film project from the critically-acclaimed writer and director and tells the story of “a young woman, Carla, and her relationship with her inner power”.

Meanwhile, local talent and Puberty Blues star Brenna Harding features in Backpedal, an experimental narrative based on the poem of the same name by Olivia Gatwood.

Longtime Flickerfest supporter and acclaimed actor Cate Blanchett has previously stated that the festival “allows emerging voices to be seen and heard, and established voices the chance to revitalise".

The shorts featured will also be up for a number of prestigious prizes.
