Big news for Sunshine Coast musicians: the first-ever Sunshine Coast Music Awards have been announced.
Set to commence on June 1 2025, the awards ceremony will be held at Your Mates Brewing in Warana.
The event will be headed up by the Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective (SCMIC), an independent industry body dedicated to supporting and championing local musicians, and will be supported by the Sunshine Coast Council.
Announcing the awards initiative in late November, SCMIC chairperson Melissa O’Bryan spoke on her excitement.
“I’ve been working with local music for nearly a decade. The talent the Sunshine Coast boasts couldn’t be more worthy of their own awards night,” she said.
A follow-up post about the awards on SCMIC’s social media reiterated O’Bryan’s sentiment, saying, “This is a massive milestone for our local music scene, and we can’t wait to celebrate the talent and creativity of our amazing community.”

It was met with a wave of positivity from locals and musicians alike.
Buderim singer-songwriter Drew Wilson told YELO that the awards are “something we’ve been wanting for a long time”.
“It will be a positive way for our creatives to put their names in lights and get the recognition that they crave and deserve for their art. Hopefully this can lead into other industry opportunities, like our own Sunshine Coast showcase at BIGSOUND to continue to put our region on the map. This is positive news and well done to the SCMIC crew for laying the platform,” he said.
Sunshine Coast-based drummer Bailey Walker echoed this, telling YELO, “After a solid chunk of time where the music industry has been left out (or forgotten), it’s great to know we’re building something strong, community-focussed and prosperous here on the Sunshine Coast. It’s time that the Coast was recognised locally, nationally, and also on the global stage. Exciting times ahead.”
