(in no particular order)
The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation
An M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist in which all the songs are crammed together to form the ultimate reprise? Fuckin’ crazy bastards. 10/10 for headfucks.
Paramore - Paramore
Such a brave album. When you have pretty much broken up and have a million crazy teenagers begging you to rewrite Misery Business it takes a big pair of pop balls to write one of the most engaging and left-field pop records of the year. Not to mention the stiffy inducing guitar and bass tones.
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
You think that Berninger would get sick of hanging shit on himself, but no, he came up with another LP full of self loathing and the world is a better place because of it. Fuck this album and the atrocious mood it puts you in.
Balance And Composure - The Things We Think We're Missing
The intro to 'Parachutes' is probably the best thing to be written this year. What a cracker.
Waterweed - Cicada
Awesome Japanese band, sometimes heavy, sometimes fast, sometimes melodic, always awesome. In the vein of A Secret Death or other really good shit.
After The Fall - Unkind
A friend did a one word review of this album for me: 'Blistering'. After the Fall are an uncompromising band, and I don't think there is a band whose ethic and attitude we hold in higher esteem.
Heartsounds - Internal Eyes
Tasty guitar licks, dual vocals, tight as hell.
HAIM - Days Are Gone
Anchors dance party. Perfect production.
A Wilhelm Scream - Partycrasher
Murphy and Tony have been creaming in their own mouths over this album. They do what we try to do, but they do it really, really well.
The Story So Far - What You Don't See
This album is really, really good because they blend fast stuff with groovy chuggy stuff which is what we like and Parker can write the fuck out of a melody.
We have to put in some honourable mentions because this is too hard: Apart From This - In Gloom, Paper Arms - The Smoke Will Clear, Daylight - Jar, Shai Hulud - Reach Beyond The Sun, Thy Art is Murder - Hate (which I'm told was actually released at the end of 2012... so I guess we should stop now ...sorry).
