Duke Dumont claims to have found out about a WhatsApp group of “well-known” DJs who refuse to spin other artists’ music if they see them as competition.
Putting the group on blast without naming any names, Dumont tweeted this morning, “There is a whatsapp group of well known DJs that agree to not play records of acts they see as competition. Fecking weirdos.”
Polish DJ Nihil Young responded, “Wtf?” Referencing an event that took place years ago, Dumont answered, “Remember the DnB committee in the early 00s? Similar thing”. Young called it “Bad egos destroying the industry”.
Twitter user The Mash Factor inquired, “I thought loads of djs only play artists on their or labels associated with”. Dumont denied that claim, replying, “That’s the polar opposite . That’s how culture & scenes grow.”
While he didn’t name anyone in this WhatsApp group, anyone in it is officially on notice.

The English DJ returned to Australia last year, performing at a muddy edition of Splendour In The Grass between rockers Grinspoon and punk legends Amyl & The Sniffers.
Purple Sneakers wrote about Dumont’s set, “[Dumont] took the stage and dance music took over. The crowd popped hugely for song after song, especially smash hits, Red Light, Green Light, Ocean Drive and The Giver, all coming with a light show to at least give us something to look at!”
He travelled to Australia again in February for the latest edition of For The Love festival, where the line-up also sported Charli XCX, Sonny Fodera & Snakehips. Australian favourites Cosmo's Midnight, Budjerah, KYE, Sumner and Jade Zoe were also on the bill.
Earlier this year, Dumont dropped his latest track, The Chant. He described his intentions behind the song like so: “I MADE THIS RECORD PURELY WITH THE MINDSET OF MAKING A EUPHORIC EXPERIENCE FOR WHEN I PLAY LIVE OR DJ. IM EXCITED TO PLAY THIS RECORD ALONGSIDE ALOT OF NEW ONES.” Check it out below.
