Dennis Dowlut - one half of Australian '00s dance duo Disco Montego - is at the centre of a police investigation over reports of missing children.

NSW Police confirmed in a statement today that they are "seeking urgent public assistance to help locate two children missing from Sydney’s east this morning".

Police say that just before 2.30am this morning, Dowlut was at a Darling Point home with his four-year-old and ten-year-old children and wife when he "packed the family into a white 2014 SsangYong Actyon SUV...expressing an intention to travel to Melbourne."

It's reported that Dowlut's wife had "strong protestations" about the decision and was forced from the vehicle at Alexandria just before 3am, when she then notified police.

"There are extreme concerns for the safety of the children, and as such police are asking the public to be on alert, not approach but report any sightings of this man, or vehicle to Triple Zero (000)," the statement reads.
