Danny BrownBrisbane’s Open Season program was already huge, and yet, it’s expanded by adding another two hot acts to its line-up.
Joining the bill are Canadian electronic pop duo Purity Ring – for their first Brisbane show in a decade – and Detroit genre-defying rapper Danny Brown. The former will perform at The Tivoli on Wednesday, 10 June, while the latter is scheduled to play at the Princess Theatre on Friday, 5 June.
Tickets for Danny Brown’s show will be available on Tuesday, 14 April, at 11 am local time. Purity Ring tickets will be available the following day at 10 am local time.
Danny Brown and Purity Ring are also performing in Hobart this winter as part of this year’s Dark Mofo program. Plus, both acts are promoting brand-new music.
Brown unveiled his seventh album, Stardust, in November. An album that explores psych-rap, the glitchy, genre-defying music finds Brown testing the boundaries of hip-hop by experimenting with noise-rap, hyperpop, and psychedelic influences.
The album contains collaborations from eclectic artists such as underscores, Femtanyl, Frost Children, Jane Remover, Quadeca, IssBrokie, Zheani, 8485, JOHNNASCU, Nnamdi, and Ta Ukraika. With Stardust, Brown builds on his reputation as one of hip-hop’s boldest, most fearless artists.
Meanwhile, Purity Ring are promoting their self-titled fifth album, released in September.

Today, the duo unveiled the single lemonlime, lifted from the album sessions. The last release of this era, lemonlime is described as “a song of survival – a sad dream, if you wake up.” It’s also an extension of the album’s overarching theme: searching for goodness in the dark and detailing the experience of caring for someone with chronic illness.
Purity Ring are set to showcase new music alongside their generational hits when they return to Australia in June. Their self-titled LP is the duo's most expansive release, exploring new creative frontiers.
