Daft Punk Announce Drumless Edition Of 'Random Access Memories'

Daft Punk have announced that they’re prepping to release a special “drumless” edition of their iconic album, Random Access Memories on Nov. 17.

Honouring the tenth anniversary of the legendary album, the French duo revealed their plans to release the drumless version of the project, titled Random Access Memories (Drumless Edition), which includes the newly-released new version of the Chilly Gonzales collaboration Within.

The exciting news comes following the announcement back in March that the musos were releasing a special anniversary edition of Random Access Memories, which featured over 35 minutes of unreleased music.

Spanning nine tracks, the band have selected a number of demos, outtakes and unfinished tracks that showcase the creative process of the dynamite duo.

Fans can listen to the bones of each song before the band worked their magic and turned them into some of the biggest hits of the last century.

Random Access Memories was released back in 2013 and quickly became a defining album for the creative duo. It was the band's only album to reach #1 number on the Billboard 100 Chart and won them several Grammys at the 2014 award show.

Random Access Memories was their fourth and final album before they disbanded and officially announced their retirement in 2021.

Speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music last month, Thomas Bangalter opened up about the pair’s split, saying it “felt good”.

“The question I ask more myself is why we did end it rather than how it could last for so long,” he said when asked why the pair decided to part ways.

“It’s a lot like a story or mini saga – sometimes there’s a TV show that has a special place in people’s hearts and it keeps that place, and it runs for one, two, three, four, five, sometimes 10 seasons,” he says.

“There’s a moment where it ends and I think it’s actually interesting to have this opportunity to start, have the middle and to end it.”

Following the split, Bangalter dropped his solo project Mythologies, while Guy de Homem-Christo collaborated with rapper Travis Scott on his latest album, Utopia.
