Last year, Cold Chisel celebrated their 50th anniversary by embarking on an enormous tour of Australia and New Zealand, selling over 250,000 tickets in the process.

Now, the celebrations will continue with the release of a live album, as well as vinyl and CD. Taken from their show at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday, 23 November, it was one of multiple additional shows announced for the band’s dedicated fans.

The release can be yours on Friday, 8 August. The live album will contain 27 tracks, including classics such as Khe Sanh, Flame Trees, Bow River, and Rising Sun, plus deep cuts like Plaza, Wild Colonial Boy, Houndog, and Mr Crown Prosecutor.

Fans will be able to purchase The Big Five-0 Live - Live at The Sidney Myer Music Bowl on double CD, three special vinyl editions—classic black (indie stores), red with black splatter (JB Hi-Fi exclusive), and a limited-edition picture disc, which will be released via Love Police.

Meanwhile, the concert film will be released as a two-disc DVD set, featuring ten additional songs and over an hour of never-before-seen interviews and archival footage. Fans who don’t end up purchasing a physical copy will also be able to listen to the live album on streaming services.

Frontman Jimmy Barnes said of the sweltering concert, Every show on our Big Five-0 Tour had something special, but the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, with 37° temperatures and an incredible audience, really brought out a blistering and joyous performance from all of us onstage. The crowd nearly drowned us out; they sang so loud and proud. It was a show we will never forget.”

Director Paul Clarke added, “50 years old, Cold Chisel are on fire in this film – I’ve never seen audiences punching the air one moment and openly sobbing the next. I feel like we caught Cold Chisel on a brilliant night in Melbourne. According to the band, they have never played better.”
