A group of our finest local artists and musicians will put girls to the front at this month's exhibition event
Music, art, light and colour will converge in spectacular fashion at the old World War II munitions factory in Salisbury this month when the all-female Chrome Street Art Show sets up shop for two days of creative celebration that put local women and their labours of artistic love to the front.
Curated by Brisbane artist Helena Townsend, Chrome Street Art Show will feature works from a litany of lauded visual artists including Wendy Pound, Megan Davies, Davon Divine, Kimberley Mather, Kate Nash and frequent The Music photographer Freya Lamont, while live music entertainment will come courtesy of talented performers such as Skye Staniford (We All Want To; pictured), Hannah Jane, Emma White (June Low), Kristy Hall and Abbie Cardwell offering up a mixture of intimate solo sets and experimental jams sure to please listeners of all persuasions.
The Chrome Street Art Show follows Townsend's previous exhibition, Home, and continues Townsend's penchant for staging works outside of usual gallery spaces (Home itself invited Townsend's audience quite literally into her actual dwelling and featured all manner of creature comforts, including a welcome barbeque).

Indeed, the Chrome Street Munitions Factory is about as atypical a space as one could ask for, having spent its early years manufacturing during WWII, a period during which women began to enter the Queensland workforce in unprecedented number — hence the deep connection to the exhibition's core theme.
The family-friendly exhibition will feature an array of paintings, photography, light installations, rock'n'roll watercolour portraiture, ceramics, metal sculptures, bird masks and other works, while the young ones will be well catered-for through the event's interactive activities for kids, including mask making, face painting and mixed-media workshops. Food and beverages will be available through the adjacent Reload Espresso Bar.
Chrome Street Art show will be held from 6pm on Friday 24 June and from 7am on Saturday 25 June at the Chrome Street WWII Munitions Factory, behind Reload Espresso, at 9 Chrome Street, Salisbury.
