Cambridge Owners Announce Epic New Venue In Newcastle

Owners of the iconic The Cambridge Hotel have announced their new venture, which involves another precious local space.

From the renowned Cambo to Newcastle, the owners of The Cambridge Hotel are announcing the relaunch of King Street, expanding and refitting the nightclub venue.

Having run King Street for 20 years, the owners will increase the building’s footprint to support more live music, entertainment, community, and inclusivity.

King Street will now house five separate music spaces, each with its own unique feel. The five performance spaces are named The Bandroom, The Warehouse, Club Level, Street Level and Broken Hearts Bar.

The largest room, The Bandroom, sports a state-of-the-art sound system, LED screens and 40+ lighting fixtures suspended on motorised trussing.

“Nothing will replace The Cambridge and its history; however, having operated the Cambo for eight years, we know what makes it sing. King Street, of course, will be a different building but still with the same staff and same focus on bringing all genres of music together,” the owners said in a statement.

“We want to build new memories and create an experience at this venue... and a venue is nothing without its people, so creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for everyone is our objective. Hope you like it.”

The venue has been designed to welcome music lovers from all walks of life, embracing any genre of music and hosting international and national heavyweights and providing a platform for emerging local acts. Local artist Joab Eastley (Raave Tapes) said after taking a sneak peek earlier this week:

“The entirety of King St has been gutted and revamped. It feels like a venue in a big city. From the mezzanine level in the massive new room, the vast lighting rig in the small room and even the smoker’s area, it is so aesthetically pleasing.

“You can see how much consideration has been poured into this thing. And it's so nice to see all the old drum skins and bits of paraphernalia from the old Cambo as a wholesome nod to the past. It truly feels like the kind of venue we can’t wait to show off to our friends from all around the country. Cannot WAIT to get on that stage!”

The revamped King Street will reopen this month and operate weekly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
