Brisbane's Laneway Fest Eases Clash Against Hottest 100 With A Big Old On-site Party

The first of 2017's St Jerome's Laneway Festival events is just around the corner, due to kick off in Brisbane on 26 January.

As you're probably aware, the Queensland leg of the festival this year shares its controversial date with Australia Day and the annual triple j Hottest 100. To mitigate the feeling that you have to choose one event or the other as the way you'd like to spend the day regardless of what you call it, the team at Laneway are throwing a backyard Hottest 100 party inside the confines of the Brisbane festival. So, you can count down while you get down, or get down while you count down, or whatever your preference for doing things in a downwards direction may be.

The backyard party will be hosted by Patience Hodgson of The Grates as well as comedian/writer Mel Buttle, with signings and chats lined up with local legends and festival alumni Violent SohoDZ Deathrays and more.

Plenty of the Laneway line-up is expected to make an appearance at some stage in the Hottest 100 — D.D Dumbo, Glass Animals, Julia Jacklin, Tash Sultana, Nick Murphy and A.B. Original, to name a few — so no matter which way you spend the day, you'll probably be treated to a few of the same tunes along the way regardless, comfortable in the knowledge that the event has pulled together a decorated line-up so obviously well-loved by the Aussie listening public.

The news of the party comes simultaneously with the festival's announcement of a bunch of market stalls for the bargain-savvy among you, with Brisbane set to see the return of the Suitcase Rummage, while Melbourne will feature the Bend & Snap markets (curated by the folks behind 1000£ Bend), Sydney will welcome old faves Dear Pluto, and Adelaide and Fremantle are set for "a mix of boutique stalls and vintage traders". Vinyl sellers are on the cards for every city too, with this year's vendors including Jet Black Cat Music in Brisbane, Polyester Records in Melbourne, Crackle & Pop Records in Adelaide, Red Eye Records in Sydney, and Mills Records in Fremantle.
