Two weeks after the announcement that Mark Seymour & The Undertow are headlining the 2024 AFL Grand Final Half Time performance with special guest Kate Miller-Heidke, the Holy Grail singer has revealed that some more friends will join him on the big day: Boom Crash Opera.

Posting rehearsal photos to his Facebook, Seymour showcased himself, The Undertow and Boom Crash Opera, performing to an empty MCG. The singer wrote in the caption, “There will be a few more punters at the G on Saturday.”

“Rehearsing with Mark Seymour & The Undertow for the halftime entertainment in this weekend’s ‘big dance’,” Boom Crash Opera posted on Instagram yesterday (26 September). “Who are we barracking for Crashies?”

While KISS were announced as the AFL Grand Final headliners for the pre-game entertainment earlier this month, they’re now joined by world-class didgeridoo player William Barton and Jess Hitchcock, Miller-Heidke’s National Anthem performance and Mike Brady leading the traditional motorcade to farewell retiring players.

Mark Seymour & The Undertow (with Boom Crash Opera) kick off their halftime gig at 3:15 pm AEST. You can watch the AFL Grand Final this Saturday, 30 September, from the MCG, live on Channel 7, or in your local pub.

Upon announcing his return to the ‘G, Seymour commented via the AFL website, “I'm very excited to be back at the MCG to perform on this great day on our national sporting calendar and to have the opportunity to sing songs in celebration of our game.”

Ticket allocation to the AFL Grand Final is currently sold out. You can sign up for the waitlist for tickets here.

In April 2020, The Music premiered the music video for the band’s surprise single, The Whole World Is Dreaming.

Seymour told The Music that they initially never intended to deliver the track as a specific release for the album Slow Dawn.

“... Shortly after the lockdown started, I began to record songs in the garage to be posted on social media as a way of getting ‘round the restrictions… Dreaming was the first song I wrote for Slow Dawn, so it has been with me longest,” Seymour said.

Mark Seymour & The Undertow are currently touring in support of Slow Dawn. You can find ticketing information on the group’s website.
