If you’ve seen the words “Boiler Room” around and don’t quite understand the hype, here’s what you need to know: it’s an independent music platform and cultural curator that works to connect club culture – which has seen a massive boom thanks to the popularisation of acts like Fred again.. and Charli XCX – to the broader world. How does it do that? All the gigs look like the most fun you can have through screens and in real life with parties, film, and video.
Born from humble beginnings, Boiler Room began with a webcam taped to a wall that opened a keyhole into the underground of London. Since 2010, Boiler Room has amassed an impressive archive that hosts over 8,000 performances by more than 5,000 artists in 200 cities, reaching millions of EDM fans monthly.
Last month, it was announced that Boiler Room would return to Sydney with its largest-ever Australian gig at the Munro Warehouse. Will Brisbane be even bigger? We’ll just have to wait and see.
