Reggae music pioneer Bob Marley is receiving the biopic feature film treatment in 2024, and now, fans can finally watch the first trailer. You can check it out below.

The One Love biopic was announced in February 2022 after Deadline reported that Paramount Pictures found their man to play Bob, Kingsley Ben-Adir (Malcolm X in One Night In Miami), following a year-long search.

Lashana Lynch (of No Time to Die fame) depicts Rita Marley as the film focuses on the period following the 1976 assassination attempt on Bob Marley’s life while the singer prepared to return to Jamaica for his One Love Peace Concert. Pitchfork reveals that the movie is due for release on 12 January 2024 in the US.

The film’s synopsis reads: “BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. On the big screen for the first time, discover Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music.”

Bob Marley: One Love was produced by the singer’s family, including his son Ziggy, daughter Cedella, and widow Rita.

Bob Marley passed away in 1981 at age 36 from cancer. He changed the realm of reggae music with the hits such as Redemption Song, No Woman, No Cry, Buffalo Soldier, Could You Be Loved, and of course, the film’s title, One Love.

In 2012, the first proper music documentary about the reggae icon, Marley, was released. UK director Kevin MacDonald told The Music, “There's very little footage of Bob and one of the reasons it's so hard to make this film – you can't do a conventional rock documentary. And that makes him more mysterious. He never explained himself or explained his songs.”

Admitting that he previously took Marley’s music for granted, MacDonald added, “You can't go down a street anywhere in the world without hearing Bob Marley at one time or another.” And that also motivated him to take on the project: “seeing that Bob had such a huge legacy around the world, particularly in the developing world, and wondering why he had this unique legacy”.
