"Recent economic factors have significantly increased costs for both Beatport and the community of tens of thousands of artists and labels that provide us with music from around the world."

Beatport, an American online music store run primarily for DJs to access full songs and stems that can be used for remixes, is upping its prices for the first time since its launch in January 2005.
Owned by LiveStyle, Beatport doesn’t only provide a selling point for DJs to find what they need to record new music; it also hosts charts so users know what’s getting popular on the program every day. Beatport also hosts live-streamed concerts.
When Beatport launched in 2005, the program offered music from 79 electronic record labels to customers across the globe. The “Beatport Sounds” section, which contains sample packs and remix stems, has seen incredible revenue boosts over the years – in 2010, it grossed $600,000. By 2015, that number leapt to $39.1 million.
While Beatport has faced its struggles, such as owners SFX Entertainment facing bankruptcy in February 2016 before rebranding as LiveStyle and becoming profitable in December 2016, it still didn’t see a price increase until now.
“At Beatport, we operate a revenue share model and pay the majority of our revenue out to artists and labels,” a press statement reads on the Beatport website. “Since Beatport’s launch, we have continued to expand our range of products and services, but we haven’t raised prices since 2005.”
The statement continued, “Recent economic factors have significantly increased costs for both Beatport and the community of tens of thousands of artists and labels that provide us with music from around the world.

“This price increase has been made in consultation with them, and will provide them with a much needed boost in revenue, as well as enable Beatport to invest in improving customer experience.
“In conjunction with this change, we are updating our policy to allow customers to re-download purchased tracks up to 5 times with no time limit. Streaming subscribers will still be able to access unlimited re-downloads.”
