Band Of Horses On Alienating Old Fans

Their Infinite Arms record was “overcooked” by their own admission.

Before they make it out to Australia for the Big Day Out early in the New Year, Band Of Horses' bandleader Ben Bridwell spoke to Time Off magazine's Steve Bell about their new record Mirage Rock and how the band now sees themselves.

When talk turns to the band's slick third album, 2010's Infinite Arms, Bridwell opens up about his thoughts on the album in retrospect. The record, which was commercially triumphant – making the Billboard Top Ten and scoring a Grammy nomination – was a little more polished than what fans had come to expect from the band.

“Yeah, I at least over-thought and maybe overcooked some of those – I just got way too hands on with the final mixing and stuff like that – so I could see where that was probably a bit off-putting to some people, so I did want to go back to a more bare bones approach just to have a different challenge,” Bridwell concedes.

“But not to please anyone per se, because I do feel that this album [Mirage Rock] is still challenging enough in its own right – enough to not be the easy way out, that's for sure.
