Australian Artist & Nick Cave Collaborator Anita Lane Passes Away

Australian singer-songwriter Anita Lane has passed away.

Accomplished Australian singer-songwriter Anita Lane has passed away. 

As The Guardian reports, a representative from the Melbourne-born artist's label confirmed the news, however a cause of death is yet to be announced. 

After meeting in the '70s, Lane formed a collaborative and personal relationship with local legend NIck Cave and his band The Birthday Party. Notably, Lane co-wrote A Dead Song from The Birthday Party's 1981 debut album, Prayers On Fire.

Lane also co-wrote other The Birthday Party tracks including Dead Joe and Kiss Me Black.


After a brief stint with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Lane continued to write for the group, penning notable songs including Stranger Than Kindness and From Her To Eternity.

Cave paid tribute to Lane's passing on Twitter today referencing their work together, writing "From her to eternity. We love you, Anita".

Lane also enjoyed success with another Bad Seeds member, Barry Adamson, with 1991 hit These Boots Are Made For Walking.

In her solo career, Lane released two albums - 1993's Dirty Pearl (which was re-released in 2012) and Sex O'Clock in 2001.
