Augie March Snag Top-15 ARIA Albums Chart Debut

They're the highest Aussie debut across the board in a relatively inert week

More Augie March More Augie March

Returned Aussie indie-rockers Augie March earned the highest debut — album or single — of any Australian act on this week's ARIA Charts, with their comeback LP Havens Dumb snaring them a top-fifteen placing for the week, stepping out at #14.

The only other debut to outrank them was 747, the newest full-length from US country outfit Lady Antebellum. The legendary Stevie Nicks and 24 Karat Gold — Songs From The Vault falls just behind the Augie March lads, earning herself #16, with Nico & Vinz's Black Star Elephant hot on her heels at #17.

Those acts make up the only artists capable of cracking the top 20 on debut on the Albums Chart this week, with Childish Gambino's much-touted Kauai EP and Caribou's Our Love the only acts to even come close, netting #25 and #26 for the week, respectively. Veteran Aussie roots outfit The Beautiful Girls still perform admirably, though, with their new corker Dancehall Days earning them the #30 spot, just above Sixx:A.M.'s Modern Vintage (#31) and Lucinda Williams' Down Where The Country Meets The Bone (#32).

Aside from some curiosities - such as Miley Cyrus' re-entry into the charts, with Bangerz once again cracking the top 100 to hit #64 off the strength of her current also-named tour - the week is a rather tepid one across the board, with Ed Sheeran's Xretaining its position atop the charts, and last week's second- and third-placeholders doing the ol' switcharoo, with the Frozen soundtrack stepping up for the silver, and Barbra Streisand's Partners dropping to #3.

It's a similar story in the singles stakes, where the highest new entry for the week comes from The X Factor contestant Dean Ray, whose aptly titled Crying managed a top-30 entry, taking out #26 for the week. It speaks volumes that the next-highest single debut also comes from X Factor contestants - Brothers 3 - and is also a cover; their rendition of Justice Crew's Que Sera nets them #42... which would be a little more impressive if Justice Crew's original version wasn't still sitting at #40. It's not Brothers 3's only debut for the week, though - Sound Of Silence, which they also did not write, steps out just inside the Top 50 at #48.

In what ended up being a pretty big week for the reality TV franchise, last year's winner, Dami Im, also makes a debut this week, with Heart Beats Again falling just inside the top 100, grabbing her #92 for the week.

At the pointy end, the respective top four entrants from last week - The Veronicas (You Ruin Me), Ed Sheeran (Thinking Out Loud), Meghan Trainor (All About That Bass), and Taylor Swift (Shake It Off) - all maintain their positions, with Nico & Vinz responsible for the most interesting movements on the chart this week - their singles Am I Wrong? and In Your Arms jumping a whopping 43 and 62 places respectively, landing at #17 and #21.
