ARIA Creates New Chart That Aims To Spotlight New, Local Music

6 June 2022 | 12:21 pm | Staff Writer

"The New Music Chart is about spotlighting exactly what new music Australians are seeking out and introducing into their lives each week."

ARIA have today announced the creation of the New Release Chart. It is the first time in three years that the peak body in Australian music has introduced a new chart.

The New Release Chart was made in response to the constantly evolving musical landscape, reflecting the hottest new local and overseas tracks on a four-month cycle, allowing a more dynamic insight into how Australian's are engaging with new and emerging music.

The chart will be limited to three entries per artist and expands ARIA's aim to create opportunities for Australian music to be heard in all its form. The chart will also introduce the weekly early release of the Australian Single and Album Charts, available at 4.00pm AEST every Friday, a place for Australian releases to be in the spotlight before the main charts are released at 5.00pm.

ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said, “As the musical landscape evolves, so does the way Australians buy, stream, listen and engage with the music they love.

"When that happens, it’s our role to find new opportunities to celebrate fresh releases and shine a light on our home-grown artists, continuing our proud history of championing the incredible, talented and dedicated industry we are lucky to call our own.

“For nearly 40 years, ARIA has been trusted to paint the most accurate and engaging picture of exactly which tracks and artists have Australia captivated, and we are very proud to introduce the next step in that story.
